Welcome to my website, detailing the adventures of Captain Esek Hrelle, his family, and the crew and cadets of his starship, the USS Surefoot. These stories are set in the 2360-70s, the Next Generation/DS9/Voyager Era.

When I wrote the first story, The Universe Had Other Plans, in the far off distant year of 2016, I never intended it to be a "first" story of anything. It was meant to be a one-off, a means of helping me fight writer's block on another project. I am amazed and delighted that it has taken on a life of its own, with an extended family of characters, places, ships and events.

The column on the right hand side groups the stories chronologically by significant events in Captain Hrelle's life (such as the command of a new Surefoot), as well as major events in the Star Trek timeline. The column on the left hand side lists reference articles, one-off stories, and a link to stories set on the USS Harken, a ship from decades before but with ties to the Surefoot Universe.

The universe of Star Trek belongs to CBS/Paramount; all of the original characters here belong to me. There is no explicit sexual content, but there are instances of profanity, violence and discussions of adult subject matters and emotional themes; I will try to offer warnings on some of the stories, but sometimes I forget.

I love comments (I don't get paid for this, sadly), so feel free to write and let me know what you think!

Overview: The Sabre-Class Surefoot

HISTORY:
The Saber-class starship entered service in 2358 with the purpose to replace the by-then outdated Oberth-class science/scout ships, as well as to fill the role of an escort/police vessel for the internal security of the Federation. She was envisioned as an extension of the Steamrunner-class light cruiser, so that, when working in tandem, the two classes would complement and support each other. With limited facilities, long-term missions were generally outside of its design, but for internal Federation missions, or specific deep space objectives, the Saber proved to be a very capable ship.

Small, fast, highly manoeuvrable, and well armed, the Saber has also proven its worth as a defensive vessel. Many ships of this class were involved in the defence of Sol during the Second Borg Incursion, as well as being involved in the conflict against the Cardassian/Dominion alliance. While not specifically a warship, the Saber held its own and showed itself to be a valuable asset for Starfleet and the Federation.

SPECIFIC MISSION OBJECTIVES:
The Surefoot (technically the Surefoot-A, though for the purposes of convenience and storytelling the suffix letter is usually ignored) is one of the few Starfleet vessels currently operating under Starfleet Academy’s Advanced Work Experience (AWE) Program, serving as both a working ship and a training vessel, allowing gifted cadets within the Program to continue to study remotely while also performing actual duties, earning salary, shipboard time and other perquisites.

The Surefoot’s current mission objectives involve fleet tender operations: providing supplies, relief crew, arms, and medical and repair facilities to ships along the Federation-Cardassian border, to vessels too small to remain fully independent for extended periods of time, and who cannot afford to leave their assigned routes to get resupplied and repaired.

To serve this objective, the Surefoot possesses a larger-than-usual number of multifunctional cargo bays and transporters, as well as an open Repair Bay with industrial fabricators, as well as barracks for relief crew that can also double as an additional Sickbay. The tractor beam arrays have also been strengthened to increase its performance.

There is also an underlying mission involving the Surefoot’s Commanding Officer, Captain Esek Hrelle. Because of his extensive experience in comparison with many of the younger senior officers serving along the Border, Starfleet Command has covertly appointed Captain Hrelle Strategic Operations Officer for the sector, allowing him to monitor and supervise Starfleet’s defences here, and to take any necessary actions should the Cardassians seek to launch a new offensive.
